The town of Cromwell was named after the Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Oliver Cromwell. The town takes up nearly 13.5 square miles in the center of the state of Connecticut. Like many Northeast towns, the government of Cromwell operates under a Town Charter made up of seven Board of Selectmen. Legislative power also rests in Town Meetings and the Board of Finance.Some of the local attractions in Cromwell are the Main Street Historic District, the Middletown Upper Houses Historic District, and the Sage-Kirby House. Cromwell is also known for the TPC at River Highlands Golf Course. This golf course hosts national PGA golf tournaments and draws many golf fans each year. Recently, Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden earned his first PGA Tour victory at the Travelers Championship. Golf fanatics love Cromwell′s "perfect" golf weather. The town′s rainfall is just under the regional average, and there′s just enough sunshine to keep the grass green and playable.
