Newington is full of charm and historic beauty, and plenty of places to fill you up. One of the town′s latest claims to fame is a food challenge. Adam Richman, host of Travel Channel′s Man vs. Food, filmed on location at Doogies. Adam put away a two–foot Doogie Dog.But interesting attractions don′t always come in large TV–size packages. Newington is home to Mill Pond Falls. It′s the country′s smallest natural waterfall and it′s celebrated each Fall during the Waterfall Festival.
Newington might have some of the most unique previous town names in all Connecticut. Before Newington was named Newington, the town was known as Pipestave Swamp and later Cow Plain. In 1721, enough local farmers gathered together to petition the town government for a name change. They succeeded.
Newington is at an elevation of 115 ft. and has a "normal" New England climate. It gets warm in the summer and cold in the winter, but you won′t hear the residents complain. They love the weather and they love their town.
