South Glastonbury was founded in 1693 by thirty families settling on the bank of the Connecticut River, an important water source to this day.In the 18th and 19th centuries, the shipyards of South Glastonbury were big business, being supplied by many local sawmills along the river. The weather in South Glastonbury is moderately warm in the summer and has average rain and snowfall compared to other towns in the Northeast.
